What is Boiler Optimisation?
All boilers often fire up unnecessarily, kicking in when there is already sufficient heat in the system. When this happens the boiler tries to heat water that is already at a high temperature and the excess heat disappears up the boiler flue. This is generally referred to as dry cycling.
The boiler is pre-set to make dry cycling unavoidable being more concerned with minimum temperatures and maximum boiler loads. Boiler optimisation is simply adding a control to the boiler, or boilers, which control the boiler by measuring demand not time elapsed.
Benefits of Boiler Optimisation
A good control system measures and regulates a boiler’s flow and return temperatures calculating when it really needs to fire. This reduces energy consumption and wear on the boiler itself.
The installation of the controls also allows for the application of human intelligence, the temperatures can be reduced if there is excess capacity in the heating system. Savings can be made by taking into account very technical elements such as weather compensation, fuzzy logic and optimum stop/start.
In installations where there is a constant heating demand (care homes / hospitals), boiler flow temperatures can be reduced at times of the day where there is minimal demand.
Control units are a viable retro fit solution to most boilers and boiler systems. Installation is very quick, non-invasive and can be implemented without disruption to the building and its occupants. The units are maintenance free and you can either fit complex remote monitoring systems to monitor exactly how much you are saving on a day to day basis or simply sit back and wait for the lower energy bills to arrive!
Boiler Optimisation with Northern Utilities
In combination with our Boiler optimisation partner company we avoid a limiting and costly “one size fits all” approach. We offer a comprehensive range of proven domestic, commercial and industrial energy saving systems tailored to the various sizes and types of heating plant, be they domestic, commercial or industrial.
The advanced micro-processor based boiler management and warm air controls intelligently manage central heating boilers/burners to dramatically reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
The Variable Thermal Response program intelligently monitors the heating system ensuring that it is economical and efficiently meets the performance requirements of the heating system.
Controls take into account all changeable factors including the level of demand, boiler flow and return and external temperature.
Other features include:
